To meet with any form of professional can often by a stressful and anxious experience and that certainly was the feeling of Mrs X as she called to see us recently for the first time.
Her plan was to review her pensions which she described as many in number, that she didn’t understand them and that she certainly did not know how to take any money out of them.
Both she and her husband have experienced ill health recently and this had heightened her need to consider retirement planning and her goal is that they should enjoy the proceeds of all their efforts before it was too late. In particular the plan to finally take those holidays they had spoken for so long about where very much in the forefront of her mind.
Our goal in meeting with her was initially to put her mind at rest. We spent some time discussing their planning, and in particular, attained a thorough understanding of their goals.
As it is very often the case when a client starts to openly talk about their finances, they recall many of the smaller details that perhaps they didn’t feel are relevant; a ‘small pension’ with a company they worked for a long time ago or a pension with a company they only worked with for a few years. In this case the client had both of these, which could ultimately form an integral part of their retirement planning.
As a full review takes time we are still in the process of completing our research for this client, but we are certain she left our office feeling very relaxed and at ease with the thought that we had the situation under control and that she and her husband could now focus on enjoying the finer things in life.
